Weed Abatement Training

Training done! Thanks Kathy and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

the class for 2018 weed abatement training

Kathy Woofter (not in this picture), a Fire Prevention Technician with Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, gave us a presentation about weed abatement standards as part of Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. We learned about fire breaks, mowing, and discing weeds into the ground, as required by the County’s weed abatement standards.  Update: here are the slides.

A view like this? Not properly maintained because grass is too high and no firebreaks. This would require a note to CCCFPD. Here’s a printable form, or an online version for easy reporting.

Kathy shared other information with us as well:

  • CCMap site for finding Assessor’s Parcel Numbers (APNs) – NOTE: this site is down for weekly maintenance every Friday 5:00 PM PST to Sunday 11:59 PM PST.
  • Diablo Firesafe Council
  • Nixle for local alerts of different kinds

We will be organizing walks starting June 1. If you were at the training, we’ll be in touch. Here’s a PDF of the brochure that we can share with residents and businesses.
