Visiting Fire Station 14

Our October meeting was a treat: a visit to our nearby Station 14 Firehouse, with a tour by Keld Lausten. We learned many amazing things, including the many handy tools behind the multitude of doors on a ladder or pump truck, that a volume of water turns into 1400 times that volume in steam (explosive!), that a ladder truck has no hoses but lots of tools, and that cancer is a big problem for firefighters. The California Public Utilities Commission worked with CAL FIRE and others to develop a Fire-Threat Map of California. The map shows places with a high risk of wildfires that could put people and property in danger. Additionally, PG&E has introduced an app that allows the public to report non-emergency safety concerns in high risks areas related to PG&E electrical equipment. Visit PG&E's Report It.
