Remote Tower Cameras Watch for Wildfires Across California

This is pretty awesome. AlertWildfire.org has cameras mounted on hills around California, Nevada and Oregon that are set up to monitor the hills for potential wildfires. Here’s a link to the South and East Bay cameras.

Of note, as of this writing no cameras are pointed toward our Alhambra ridge, which is a high priority fire zone. Our Firewise CERT teams are doing weed abatement inspections, and some areas (looking at you, CalTrans) still have some work to do. Do we have sites where a camera might be hosted?

ALERTWildfire is a consortium of three universities — University of California San Diego, The University of Nevada, Reno and the University of Oregon. With over 300 live cameras, the ALERTWildfire network provides access to state-of-the-art cameras to firefighters, first responders and the general public.
