You are invited to join us for The Great Shake Out Earthquake Drill at 10:15AM on October 15th, 2020. You could be anywhere when an earthquake strikes: at home, at work, at school or even on vacation. Are you prepared to survive and to recover quickly? Practice with us at 10:15AM!

After the Drop Cover and Hold drill, Martinez CERT will conduct a FRS Radio Drill. The radio drill will be designed to connect CERT members in all districts. The Radio Drill will commence at 10:30 AM and last for 10 minutes. Communication is critical in any emergency. Let’s practice those radio skills!

The Drills:

drop to the floor, cover your head and body, hold on until the shaking stopsDrop Cover And Hold On!

At 10:15AM we will send an email to all our members to simulate that an earthquake is occurring and they need to drop, cover, and hold on.

Why is it important to do a Drop, Cover, and Hold On drill? To react quickly you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake, before the strong shaking knocks you down…or drops something on you! Practicing helps you be ready to respond.

FRS/GMRS radioHello? Is anyone out there?

The Drop, Cover and Hold On Drill will be immediately followed by an FRS Radio check-in at 10:30AM on Channel 2 to try and reach one another. Why is a radio drill important? Our goal will be to determine which areas can connect and which areas cannot so that we can design protocols to follow in the event of a real emergency. An earthquake may cause damage to cell towers hampering vital communication. Effective communication is vital to a good emergency plan. Your participation is valuable!
