Car Emergency Kit

ARE YOU ROAD READY?

Being on the road when disaster strikes can put you in a challenging situation. In addition to maintaining your vehicle is good order, prepare for the unexpected with a well stocked Car Emergency Kit. Store your supplies in a durable canvas bag. It is also advised to always pack personal items to last at least 24 hours for each member of your household including your pets. •  Get into the habit of filling your tank when it reaches half full.
  •  Check that your tires and spare are in good condition.
  • Do not drive through flooded areas. Six inches of water can cause a car
to lose control or possibly stall. A foot of water will float many cars.
  • Pay particular attention to areas where floodwaters have receded. Roads may
have weakened and could collapse under the weight of a car.
  • If a power line falls on your car you are at risk of electrical shock. Stay inside
until a trained person removes the wire.
  • If it becomes hard to control the car, pull over, stop the car, turn on emergency
flashers, and set the parking brake.
  • Be aware. The emergency could affect the stability of the roadway, overpasses,
bridges, power lines, signs and other hazards.
  •  Customize your kits for your personal needs, weather, and location.
