Earthquakes Awareness Month in California
WHOSE FAULT IS IT ANYWAY?
Living in The Bay Area means that earthquakes are guaranteed events. Absolutely. Guaranteed. The only questions are when and how big.
Are you ready?
The best time to prepare for a disaster is BEFORE one happens. Preparing ahead of time is the smart move. Prepared people have more choices, less stress, and better outcomes.
- Practice Drop, Cover and Hold On with your household.
- Identify safe spots in every room – under sturdy tables, desks
- Know the danger spots – windows, mirrors and hanging objercts.
Make a plan
You and your family may not be together or at home during an earthquake Having a plan .in place will be a great comfort.
- How to reconnect with you family?
- If you are able to remain at home, what supplies will you need?
- If ordered to evacuate, where will you go?
Stay or go?
What would it be like to be in your home for days without
- Water?
- Electricity?
- Phone service?
A major earthquake in our region could present those challenges. You and your family will need your own food, water and other supplies to last for several days. A Stay Kit is a collection of basic items your household may need to remain at home until local services resume.
Plan now in case you are ordered to evacuate. Will you go to the home of a friend or family member or a pre-designated shelter? Know your evacuation destination. Keep Go Bags ready for each member of your family. Don’t forget your pets. They need a Go Bag too!
