Our fire season has become a year-long concern. Earthquakes are guaranteed events. Neighboring manufacturing and transportation facilities may pose risks. These short 2-hour classes offer a realistic approach to prepare for emergency situations. All three classes are held at the Martinez Senior Center, 818 Green Street.
WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS
Saturday, June 21, 9am – 11am
Learn how to protect yourself and your family by drafting a plan,
preparing and staying aware of risks to your home.
Topics covered:
- Creating and maintaining defensible space
- Community Alerts and evacuation planning
- Tips for hardening your property against wildfire
EARTHQUAKE HAZARD MITIGATION – Secure Your Space
Saturday, July 19 9am – 11am
Learn how to safely secure your home or workplace for an earthquake. Securing common items like television, computers, bookcases, appliances, and furniture will be discussed. Mitigation of non-structural hazards will be emphasized.

PERSONAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS “PEP”

Learn how to prepare yourself and your family for when a major disaster strikes. Topics covered will include:
- Identify your disaster risks and how to secure your home and personal data
- What you need to prepare your Go Bag and emergency kits
- Practical tips for fire safety and evacuation and preparing to
shelter-in-place
