6.22.24 Evacuation Drill

The City of Martinez held an Evacuation Drill for selected streets in Zone MAR-E001 the morning of June 22, 2024. This was the first evacuation drill ever held in the City. The goal of the evacuation drill was to ensure residents know what to do in the event of an emergency and provide an opportunity for the MPD to practice their skills. In a situation where seconds count, planning and practice could save lives and minimize damage.

Households in the entire area received information about the drill weeks ahead of time. At 9 am on 6/22/24, selected homes got an official door knock to evacuate from MPD. The area also received a CWS message and the entire city received Martinez Alerts. Participants evacuated on foot and proceeded to the Evacuation Assembly Area at the Martinez City Hall Complex. At the Evacuation Assembly Area, drill ‘evacuees’ participated in a quick debriefing about their experience and were invited to visit with The Mayor and Martinez City Council members, The Red Cross, MPD, Con Fire,  and CERT.
