Our final CERT Training exercise was held at the lovely and spacious Community Center in Brentwood on Saturday, 26 October. Everyone who needed help were rescued and treated with our first aid skills. Fires were extinguished, cribbing was built and bodies moved to safety, and paperwork was completed.
Well done, new CERT volunteers!

The fire was very close to our barn of 19 horses. We had plans in place, our barn had talked about disaster preparation, and we had CCCART (Contra Costa County Animal Response Team) put together a presentation on how to prepare for disasters. However, planning and preparation is good; proper execution is better.

Our Stop the Bleed training went very well! Ron Shuman, our main instructor, was pleased at how engaged we were with our questions and our hands-on work.

Residents living in high-risk wildfire areas of Martinez CA who want to take action steps to increase their safety but are unsure about how to start can now find the information, and the inspiration, they need to organize and accomplish wildfire risk reduction projects in their community. Martinez Area CERT and partners are conducting a weed abatement training as part of the fifth annual Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event on May 5, 2018.
